Pondering....
Sadly, the EE isn't mine, although if it stays there much longer....
I started the patchwork throw back in February, sewed the squares together and then lost interest. On Sunday I decided to finish it. All was going well until I got to the the backing stage and found my fabric was slightly too small!
Since then I've been thinking about whether to make the border smaller (but it is the fabric I like most in the design!), or whether to add some blocks to the backing fabric to extend it. What do you think? Much as I'm tempted to go with the first option I think I'll probably extend the back as I think it will niggle me forever knowing that I didn't do it properly, and I want it to last a looong time. The previous one I did, not that long ago, is falling apart already!
And finally, this is what happens in our house if you try to work on the floor!
Thanks to all the WOYWWers who visited last week, I loved having a nosey around all the desks.
Pop over to Julia's to see what this is all about if you fancy a look yourself!
Thanks for visiting
xXx
I like the border too, think I would extend the back.....annoying thing to do though! x
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilt! I am like you and would probably extend the back or it would bug me forever. Cute fur babies. Looks like the want to help fix it! Have a great week. Vickie @106
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! I so want to make one, got the pattern I want to use but I just can decide on what fabric to use.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing & visiting me earlier

I would add a border of contrasting fabric to the backing.....easier and sorted! Lovely quilt, colours and fabrics, yum!
ReplyDeletelove JoZarty x
LOL - it's cats that sit on my stuff in our house!! They particularly enjoy sitting on maps and ALWAYS where you're looking!!
ReplyDeleteI would buy some new backing fabric that's going to be big enough, personally, rather than trying to make other stuff fit. The blocks around the edge are perfect, it would be a real shame to cut them back. And Fabricland is fantastic - I should have share in the company....

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me, and how controlled of you to leave the chocolate alone - I'm not so strong-willed.
ReplyDeleteLove the patchwork and I would opt for extending the backing, that fabric is far too gorgeous to trim down - love your Cavs sitting on it. The one on the left is the spitting image of my Niece's (long gone now) Bella, a beautiful dog and so good natured.
Thanks for sharing.

...your patchwork is beautiful a true labour of loVe...and it looks like two fans have staked their claim on your goods...thanks for sharing...Mel :)
ReplyDeleteI love the border fabric pattern too so I think you would be happier to extend the back. If you put things on the floor in my house it is fair game too. We have cats. Not that they limit themselves to only things on the floor-oh no!
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing looking quilt! I so admire people who are clever with a sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed looking at your space
Have a good week and happy hopping!

ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne - thanks for popping over and leaving a comment. I love your blog, and have the same problem with my cats as you do with your dogs! Hope you are happy with your throw, once you decide how to finish it. x
ReplyDeleteHa ha had to smile at your little doggies making themselves at home! Don't know what to advise but if it's not too much faff I would do something with the back or you won't be happy. TFS Cindy #67
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne what a lovely quilt. All that lovely red gives it an oriental feel. Do you think the dogs will swap for the one that has seen better days :-) Happy WOYWW Helen 35

Oh, this looks lovely Suzanne. I haven't made a quilt in years - the last one was for our bedroom (king size)and I was sitting quilting in the middle of the floor right up to about a week before our daughter was born - I said 'Never again!'
