For some time now I've had an idea buzzing through my head, and despite last Saturday feeling like I didn't want to see my sewing machine for a long time, by yesterday I was itching to make something!
And that something is a pincushion (my idea is for a range of pincushion people!).
This is my first attempt at a prototype
it does have a certain charm about it but the head is too small I think. The face and hair is drawn on this one but will be embroidered.
So, I made another template, this time with the same size body but a larger head.
As you can see I didn't even finish this one as I just wanted to see if the proportions were right.
A bit rough around the edges, but this is the design I'm going with...
PENELOPE
definitely need to work on that face (same size eyes would be a good start!).
The idea is to have different faces, hair colour, clothing etc and they will all have a name, possibly embroidered on them somewhere.
What do you think to sticking pins in 'people'?
I have more trouble sticking them in 'animals' myself - wonder what that says about me?!!
Have you had a crafty weekend?
Thanks for visiting
xXx
You're doing well Suzanne - start with a great idea, work around it a wee bit, and then hey presto! A lovely pincushion, and I suppose there are times when such could be a good stand in for people - maybe a good way to let off steam, haha!
ReplyDeleteI've been crocheting mug cosies all weekend and now need a change - but tomorrow is another day!
Wishing you a great week! Love, Joy xo
Thank you Joy, they were fun to design - just need to get the faces right! Do mug cosies keep the drink warmer for longer? My tea at work nearly always goes lukewarm which I hate before I get a chance to drink it!! I get very grumpy about it as I like my tea HOT! XX
DeleteHow funny you raised the issue of sticking pins in people. I think your pin cushions are brilliant but don't think I could get over the voodoo-esque feelings of impaling people or animals.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know what you mean - I have a bit of a problem sticking pins in the bunny pincushion I have but none at all sticking them in Penelope!!
DeleteX
I really like these, brilliant idea x
ReplyDeleteThank you Joy. XX
DeleteI hadn't thought about the sticking pins into people aspect! Hope that you can come to terms with it. They look great! xx
ReplyDeleteThink I can Amy - I may even enjoy it at times!!
DeleteI like them, I think they're really cute :)
ReplyDeleteThank you X
DeleteGreat idea... I love a mad pin cushion and they could double up as brooch keepers. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea about brooch keepers - I'll be using that one! XX
DeleteThese are lovely, Penelope is the best of the batch in my opinion and I like the idea of them all having a name. I think I'd rather use these as brooch keepers than pincushions.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else said that, something I'd not thought of but will make some bigger ones for that. Great idea - thanks! X
DeleteThose are adorable. I really need to get out me sewing machine. I miss it. At the moment I'm trying to finish up more Easter eggs. I really enjoyed playing with the collage pauge and different way to decorate them. My favorite is add my press flower or using paper napkins (with all the lovely images).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Birthday wishes for Opie. Yes, he was extra spoiled that day. : )
Have a great day and Happy Easter too.
Blessings,
Bobbie Lynn
Thanks Bobbie Lynn. Your eggs came out really well, didn't they? Have you managed to get a bit of sewing done with all your recent gardening? XX
DeleteI would have no problem sticking pins in people, I think that says a lot about me!! The bigger head is just right, and wonky eyes, why not, it's good to be slightly imperfect xx
ReplyDeleteYou know, your right! I wouldn't expect a human person to be perfect so why should a pinsushion person?!! XX
DeleteI love the idea of pincushion people, they look wonderful. For some reason like you I have no problem sticking pins in people :) Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteAli xx
I could offer a service where I name them after someone specially...Now, there's an idea!! XX
